Ex- Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief CPS official stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
