Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have been without key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he resumed for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
