Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
