The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl harboring several human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms where their necks are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
